Apigenin
Flavonoid from chamomile; gentle sleep and relaxation support.
What it is
Apigenin is a flavonoid abundant in chamomile. It binds to benzodiazepine receptors at sub-sedative levels, promoting calm without heavy drowsiness.
How it works
Binds to GABA-A benzodiazepine site as a weak partial agonist; provides anxiolytic effects without full sedation.
What the evidence says
Emerging evidence; mostly extrapolated from chamomile research. Mechanistically promising but human trials are limited.
Safety Notes
- Gentle enough for nightly use. Often stacked with magnesium and L-theanine for sleep.
- Use caution with: pregnancy/breastfeeding (caution).
- sedatives / benzodiazepines: Additive effects at benzodiazepine receptor; use caution.
