Vitamin B Complex
Full spectrum B vitamins for energy metabolism and nerve function.

What it is
A B-complex provides all 8 essential B vitamins (B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B9, B12) to support energy production and nervous system health.
How it works
B vitamins serve as coenzymes in energy metabolism (Krebs cycle, electron transport chain), methylation, and neurotransmitter synthesis.
What the evidence says
Strong evidence for correcting deficiency; moderate evidence for energy and mood in those with suboptimal intake.
How much to take
The dose is one serving daily, as labeled; the catalog doesn't set a milligram range because products differ. What matters is what's inside: look for methylated forms (methylfolate, methylcobalamin) over the cheaper synthetic ones.
The evidence is strong for correcting deficiency and moderate for energy and mood when intake is suboptimal. If your diet is solid, the effect will be subtle.
When and how to take it
With breakfast. B vitamins can be energizing, so keep them out of the evening. Bright yellow urine afterward is riboflavin, and it's harmless.
Check the label before adding standalone B12 or folate; the complex already contains both, and folic acid has a ceiling.
Who should skip it
No contraindicated conditions, and it's safe in pregnancy. Two interactions: levodopa (moderate) and methotrexate (mild). On either, ask your doctor which B vitamins are fine before taking a full complex.
Safety Notes
- May cause bright yellow urine (riboflavin) — this is harmless. Look for methylated forms (methylfolate, methylcobalamin).
- levodopa: B6 can reduce levodopa efficacy; take B6 only with carbidopa/levodopa combo.
- methotrexate: Folate in complex may reduce methotrexate efficacy; consult oncologist.
Timing With Other Supplements
- Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin): B-complex already contains B12; avoid double-dosing unless directed.
- Folate (Folic Acid / Methylfolate Products): B-complex already contains folate; avoid double-dosing unless directed.
Common questions
When is the best time to take a B complex?
With breakfast. B vitamins can be energizing, and the catalog explicitly says to avoid evening dosing.
Do I need B12 in addition to a B complex?
Usually not; the complex already contains it. The exceptions are vegans, metformin users, and long-term acid blocker users, who often need more B12 than a complex provides.
Why is my urine bright yellow after B vitamins?
Riboflavin (B2). The excess leaves in urine and colors it. It's harmless and expected.
