Amino Acids
L-Tyrosine
Dopamine precursor; supports focus and cognitive performance under stress.
What it is
L-Tyrosine is an amino acid precursor to dopamine, norepinephrine, and epinephrine. It helps maintain cognitive performance during stress or sleep deprivation.
How it works
Precursor to catecholamine neurotransmitters (dopamine, norepinephrine); replenishes depleted stores under stress.
What the evidence says
Moderate evidence for cognitive resilience under acute stress; limited benefit when not under stress.
Safety Notes
- Most effective when catecholamine stores are depleted (stress, sleep deprivation). Less useful at baseline.
- Use caution with: hyperthyroidism (caution), melanoma (caution).
- MAOIs: Contraindicated; may cause hypertensive crisis.
- levodopa: May compete for absorption; separate dosing.
- thyroid medications: Tyrosine is a thyroid hormone precursor; monitor.
